An impactful was finalized recently, thanks in part to the outstanding leadership of Nima Molaei, a regulatory expert and Managing Director of Connected Technologies at JVIDÊÓƵ. Nima is chair of the working group responsible for the amendment and led the 15-month effort to draft and circulate the amendment for voting, followed by a 3-month publication process with IEEE. This standard is critical in the regulatory industry, providing procedures for compliance testing of unlicensed wireless devices operating under the FCC's Part 15 rules, including common technologies but not limited to Bluetooth, WLAN (Wi-Fi) and Ultra-Wideband (UWB).

The amendment addresses several issues and misalignments in the 2020 version of the standard as well as adding guidance for new Wi-Fi technologies (Wi-Fi 6e).

Changes covered in the amendment include:

    • Extending the standard's applicability from 9 kHz-231 GHz to 9 kHz-750 GHz.
    • Adding guidance for Wi-Fi 6e in-band and out-of-band emission measurements.
    • Updating frequency stability test methods.
    • Improving occupied bandwidth measurement for narrowband signals.
    • Enhancing UWB measurement guidance for ground-penetrating and wall imaging radar.

In his role as chair, Nima defined objectives, facilitated discussions, and maintained the working group’s focus and engagement, ensuring the amendment’s timely completion. While pending FCC adoption, this amendment is adopted by and expected to become a reference guide soon. It provides crucial updates that allow the industry to maintain a current reference while work continues on the next full version of the standard.

Nima's leadership in this effort exemplifies JVIDÊÓƵ’s commitment to continuously improving industry standards, ensuring our customers have access to the most up-to-date compliance testing procedures, and making tomorrow safer than today.
